Mike McVay is President of McVay Media, a full-service consulting firm, that specializes in content creation, network/syndication/radio programming, podcast creation and development, digital content, talent coaching, artist development, and unique media strategy design. McVay also consults in the entertainment sector focusing on video, digital, audio, music artists and labels.
McVay served previously as the Executive Vice President of Content and Programming for Cumulus Media and the Westwood One radio network. In his role he oversaw the programming for Cumulus’ then 450 owned radio stations and Westwood One, the company’s national network/syndication arm. His role also included responsibility for Podcast content, Digital distribution and content creation, as well as overseeing the companies Programing Education curriculum.
McVay coach’s talent, programmers, and content creators on the art of entertainment, attracting an audience and maximizing personalities as a brand. His services include talent procurement.
He is a 40-year programmer with national and local consulting, management, ownership, sales, network/syndication, programming, and on-air experience. He has also developed and launched several nationally syndicated programs. He is recognized as the co-creator with Delilah Renee of the nationally syndicated radio show “Delilah.” He was instrumental in the launch of The John Tesh Show as a daily syndicated program which he continues to consult. McVay Media began serving broadcasters and talent in 1984.
His experience also includes serving as an international media consultant with companies around the world. He was a founding partner in the company now known as Futuri, and an original investor in Edison Research.
He has programmed in markets as big as Los Angeles and as small as Wheeling, WVa. Between those cities were Charleston, WVa, Louisville, KY and San Diego. He worked as an Air-Talent in those markets as well as in Pittsburgh, PA. He served as General Manager in Mobile, Alabama and Cleveland, Ohio. He’s owned radio stations in Key West, Naples, Honolulu and Flint, Michigan. He lived in Atlanta during his time with Cumulus Media/Westwood One radio network.
McVay has received numerous awards and acknowledgements. Most recently he is a 2025 inductee into the National Radio Hall of Fame. Mike received the 2025 NAB National Radio Award during the Marconi Awards in New York City. He is a recipient of the prestigious Broadcast Foundation of America Leadership Award for 2024, the Giants of Broadcasting & Electronic Arts award in 2024 from the Library of American Broadcasting Foundation, The Conclave’s Rockwell Award, received the inaugural Innovation in Music & Media Award in 2017. Mike McVay is a 2021 inductee into the WVA Broadcasters Hall of Fame and was inducted into the Cleveland Broadcast Hall of Fame in 1997.
He was recognized by Radio Ink magazine as the #4 ranked Leader in Radio for 2025, #4 among “America’s Top Programmers” as well as #14 on Radio Ink’s “Top 40 Most Powerful Broadcaster” list. He has been noted as one of the “Titans of Talk” by NTS magazine every year 2012-2024, and was named “Corporate Programmer/Consultant of the Year” by Worldwide Radio Summit in 2015, 2017, 2019 and 2020 while working for Cumulus Media. He received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Worldwide Radio Summit in 2020. McVay was recognized three times as “Broadcast Executive of the Year” by the former magazine Radio & Records.
He is a member of board of directors for Country Radio Broadcasters, Board of Directors for the Alliance for Women in Media foundation, the Co-Chair for the Alliance for Women in Media’s Gracies Awards and serves on the Board of Directors for the Library of American Broadcasting Foundation.
Mike is a voting member of both the Country Music Association and the Academy of Country Music. He is a member of the Radio Committee for St. Jude Children’s Hospital and Research Center.
